'Low Calorie' Lean Six Sigma"Low Calorie" Lean Six Sigma – a business process improvement solution optimized for resource-constrained situations. There IS a better way – most of the benefits of the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) "DMAIC" (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) methodology can be realized at a fraction of the usual investment.Process-Fusion.net has developed an approach to LSS deployment that leverages the Pareto principle (the "80/20" rule) to deliver the core Yellow Belt and Green Belt DMAIC essentials at a fraction of the usual cost.Tailored solutions combining eLearning with remote and/or on-site coaching are cost-effective for organizations with as few as 20 employees. The Scaling Challenge Most large multi-national firms worldwide have deployed Lean Six Sigma with dramatic results – most report 3x-10x ROI. Among larger firms use of LSS in manufacturing areas is nearly universal, and it is also very wide spread in "transactional" areas such as finance and administration in nearly all types of businesses. Yet, penetration of this proven process and product improvement methodology in mid-sized firms and organizations has been relatively slight. Even within larger firms penetration has lagged in certain areas, most notably in software and IT. Why is that? What can be done to enable adaptation of this discipline more widely? Briefly stated, wider adoption of LSS within mid-sized organizations means overcoming several entrenched Six Sigma Myths, including: > The "Entry Fee" A typical large firm deployment of LSS will entail training dozens to hundreds of highly paid professionals as "Black Belts". The entry fee for this "fat Sigma" approach can easily exceed $1,000,000. > The "Top Down" Myth Conventional wisdom in the LSS community suggests that significant involvement of the top executive is required for success. Mid-market firms are often far more entrepreneurial and mid-level leaders are often far more empowered and likely to act relatively independently. While CEO involvement is certainly helpful, sponsorship at mid levels can and does work in mid-sized groups and in specialized units such as software and IT. > The "Deep Statistical Knowledge" Myth Conventional approaches to LSS training involve in-depth immersion in statistical methods and techniques. When processes are rigorously defined, highly repeatable, and susceptible to precise measurement and control - as they invariably are in high-volume manufacturing situations - this is often useful and appropriate. These conditions are often not present in non-manufacturing areas. Deep statistical training in these environments is expensive overkill. > The "Dedicated Resources" Myth LSS deployments in larger organizations usually require a dedicated cadre of full time dedicated process improvement specialists known as "Black Belts". Mid-sized organizations rarely have the ability or willingness to make a commitment on that scale. On-site workshops covering these and related topics are also available and can be tailored to your specific situation. Please Contact Us to discuss your needs.
